Stand mod

So I have this tank and stand
I have recently purchased a sump but I went overboard and got one that’s too large
I would like to remove the center and sides and place some 2x4 for support
Probably a bad idea but I can’t afford a sand I’m on a budget unfortunately
Any help is appreciated

That stand is probably made entirely of some sort of engineered, pressed wood. It gets a lot of it's stability from the center area. It both supports the span of the top board and the board attached to the back side of the two dividers keeps it from collapsing/ folding sideways.

I am a DIYer myself and I think it possible to do it but you would basically build a internal frame structure to slide in form the front after you take the doors off and the middle support boards out. The tank would have to be empty of course and the frame structure would have to be a tight fit. It would be a pretty advanced thing to do so if you don't have some carpentry skills and the tools to go with the skills then it might be easier to build a whole new stand.

There are plenty of videos on YouTube and some nice builds in this forum. This one is pretty basic but a good design

I’ve looked at this stand at Petsmart, it’s particle board, made by Sauder, uses mostly cam locks for assembly. While the pieces are 3/4”, the two center upright panels are structurally critical. You’d have to basically build what amounts to a 2x4 window frame with a header if you remove all central support. At that point I’m not sure that you aren’t better off just building a new stand as was suggested above. Reuse the top panel if you want, that’s the nice thing with cam locks, the come apart in seconds if you want.

As stated above. That’s a particleboard stand and it’s like a jigsaw puzzle. Every piece that’s included and connects is part of the magic that make it able to hold a tank. Every connector and board is crucial and dependent on each other. Those two center vertical panels along side the shelf are structural and load bearing and support the top panel front to back. . If you put vertical 2x4 in the front and back then nothing supports the middle of the top panel.
The whole underside would need to be framed and braced
