Hi im new to this I have a 130 gallon rectangle tank and got a stand with it as well but the doors arent big enough to do daily maintance when needed on my wet/dry filter system. So I was thinking of cutting the doorway bigger would this be a bad idea? Where are the key points that hold most of the wieght on the stand. Also someone told me to put little strips of carpet pad between the tank and stand will help on the pressure to the stand.

If it is a manufactured stand don't cut anything. Those stands are precision made with as little wood as possible and IMO every board is needed.

Foam is recommended between the tank and the top of the stand. As far as cutting the stand, we would need to see pictures before attempting to comment on whether it is a good idea. Like has been said you need to be careful when cutting a stand as you might be cutting critical support.
