I have a custom 48x20 tank however no stand. I’m wondering if it’s ok to purchase a stand that is for tank with foot print of 48x24 or 48x8 and have my tank sit on top of plywood. Would this be a problem?

Definitely not the 48 x 8 (or maybe you meant 18?), either way, the weight distribution would be way off, especially with a tank that large. The larger stand should work though.

If you added a brace at the 20” mark to hold the plywood up on the 24” stand you will be fine, otherwise the plywood WILL sag and buckle and drop the tank over time.
