I like this design as well. Just because I’m a nervous nelly who lives in earthquake country, I’d add joist hangers under the 2x6 lumber. If you are building stand using @RocketEngineer design, then you would be fine without center support. I was in the same boat as you, and he confirmed it is not needed with 2X6 frame at the top. With that said, I did put 2 off center supports, mainly because I plan on putting doors on. My tank is also 5' long, but acrylic.

That’s exactly what I would build, but I was planning a rear uprightI will repeat what has been said....@RocketEngineer 's 2x6 top frame without center support will easily support your tank.....it's worked for me for 12-13 years:

FYI, also a five foot tank!
almost all us DIY stand builders over build, if you compare what we do to what you would buy from your LFS for the same tank.

no doubt. This is the sump portion of a 125 gal build that is welded and anchored to the wall.almost all us DIY stand builders over build, if you compare what we do to what you would buy from your LFS for the same tank.

Starting to build the stand for my 5' 120 gallon. I am using 2x6's, will it be ok if I do not have a center support in the front?
