Stand rehab or build new.

Forgive the long post. I thought I was lucky finding a used 220 and stand along with lights 3 older mp40s and some other equipment for 1400.00. Unfortunately I didn't look close enough and the tank should probablybe reseeled (no leaks just would make me feel better) and the stand is not in the best of shape. I am hoping I can just sand down the stand and refinish. I'm pretty sure the stand is glued and screwed so rehab would need to be standing painting anything's like that. It seems sturdy. The stand looks like an rj enterprises stand. I like the look of the stand. Has anyone built a stand similar to this? I built my last stand for my 90 using 2x4s and covered with plywood. It came out pretty nice. Tool wise I should be ok. I have a table saw, chop saw, kreg pocket hole jig, a jig saw, scroll saw, hand held router, and lots of clamps. Any ideas on how I can refurbish this stand? If not has anyone built a stand similar to this before?

rehab? seriously? That thing is TOAST. Once osb gets wet it expands but will never contract back to its original size. Plus the other wood looks to be MDF, which is the second worst wood product to use on a tank stand... next to OSB.

Just build a stand with 2x6 top rails and 2x4 legs. Screw some plywood to the back and face the front with a nice sheet of hardwood ply.

If your dead set on rehab... pour glue into the mitered corners and clamp. Cut a sheet of plywood for the bottom and just glue it to the OSB for the bottom. I solid bead of liwuid nails around the edge of the plywood..should, keep most of the water out of the OSB. Then paint it.

Everything else looks good. Just the bottom board. Problem is getting that bottom board out.

I'm not dead sent on rehab just looking for advice on if it's possible to rehab it. If it's not I'd like to build the stand as close to the original as possible because I have a matching canopy that's in good shape.

Is there a link some[lace for stand plans? I’d like the front center divider offset like the stand I have to allow more room for the sump. If I do a 2x stand should the top be 2x6 does the bottom need 2x4 inside the box? I’d like to have the entire stand sit on a piece of 3/4 inch plywood so it distributes the weight across my vinyl floor more evenly.

I 2x6 will hold a 4' long tank without a center brace. I dont know what kind of vinyl floor you have but it should be fine with just four legs.

200 gallons of water and rock.. your pushing 2,000 lbs. That is 500lb per leg, at 100 psi. If you want to test it.. you can stand on a 1"x1" block of wood and see if it dents the floor. I would bet that it does not, but I have not bothered to google compression strengh of vinyl flooring.

It's a 72" 220 gallon. I plan on using 2x8 top frame and offsetting the center support like the picture in the original post. My center brace will be at 2' instead if centered at 3'.

If you want to save it you could use a Sawzall and cut the bottom off. You will need to use it on the inside of the stand because Im sure there is glue on those vertical 1x6s and then flip it over and use the Sawzall around the outside edge of the bottom board.
You could also take the trim off the bottom and cut it down a couple inches, put new bottom board on, put old trim on, and done. Plus it might be easier to manage your tank a couple inches lower.

I like the idea of rehabbing it. Especially if you have a matching top.
I bought a used tank and hated the look of the stand and opening wasn't big enough for the sump. I couldn’t find one I liked so I am rehabbing the old one. Added a new bottom sone additional support, some trim, primed and painted.
When I added everything up though, I maybe should have looked harder. But I had fun doing it.

Put led ights (that can change to any color) in the stand and use plexiglass for a door. With a clean sump and color pipes that would be cool. I have my doors off so much they may as well be glass.
