Stand slightly too big?

Hey there guys, we're in the process of setting up a 29 gallon glass tank and we wanted to get a stand that was slightly bigger than the tank itself. I totally spaced on the physics involved in supporting the weight of this thing, and while the front and rear edges line up, there's about a 2.5" space between the sides of the stand and the edge of the tank.

Is this going to be okay with such a small tank, or is this a deal breaker for the setup? Any information/suggestions are fully appreciated.

That is supportive of the tank and perfectly fine
You can place a layer of wood exact fit on top for added stability

So you're thinking like a layer of wood cut to the size of the stand to disperse the weight of the tank rim more evenly?

Agreed. That is what the top piece of wood on the stand is doing.

Is the top of the stand a solid piece of wood or just a rim? If it is just a rim, I would suggest a solid layer of wood over the rim. The cantilever effect of the weight on the edge of the rim not being over the vertical sides could be excessive and cause it to fail.

Edit: I missed that it is only on the sides. You should be fine with the support on the front and back
