Stand too small for sump..help!

Hi Chad McCann
A picture or diagram would help people on here visualize the setup and someone will have a solution!

Welcome to R2r & Merry Christmas.

+1 on all above; Welcome to R2R! Some pics might allow us to help. For example, I had a 93g cube and a squat 30g sump with a problem of it sticking out of the back about 3 inches. I simply use a 3/4 inch piece of painted plywood extending out so the sump would not overhang and the problem was solved.

I'll bet with all the great folks here we could help figure something out. :) Great to have you with us and thank you for joining the family here.

Ah cube sump sounds like a good idea. Would the skimmer still fit inside?

Also I’ve been doing research and think I’ll go with a Trigger systems sump. I’ve read lots of good stuff about them

Yes, the Trigger is nicely done. I really enjoy mine and yes sir a skimmer will fit in one.

Just throwing ideas out there but what if I used two canister filters? One in each cabinet or is that overkill? If I can’t come up with a sensible solution I’ll just have to get another stand although I would much rather stay with the one I’ve got. Ahhh I just want to get started!

Look into hand on the back type filtration. I use this type of filtration for a number of years. I DIYed my original one. and before going to a sump I ran the CPR bakpack dual link

I am using a 75gph and a 150gph cascade can filter on my 125, also a cpr back pack skimmer and a in tank uv. I have thought about putting my heater in the skimmer but haven’t yet,how my luck goes I would break it. I don’t think you can overkill on the filter but more the media type and amount you use. I use more mechanical and biological than chemical in both and only run half the carbon amount needed for my aquarium size and change more frequently

Tunze and Eheim will work great. One of the best reef tanks I ever had was all in tank Tunze. I have had a 40 gallon reef tank running on Eheim canister and Tunze skimmer for more than 15 years. Just switched the canister for Tunze Comline filter less than a year ago. A sump is nice but totally unessary. I built aquariums for over 25 years for aquarium stores in the Northwest and none of the sump systems I built or sold outperformed the Tunze. I have sold and built thousands of aquariums in that time so I do have a little experience with a wide range of systems and designs. Had a store owner come to my home to view my Tunze system and his jaw hit the floor .... he bought the whole system, tank, stand, and tank contents .... he could not get his hand on his wallet fast enough .... lol. Very quiet and very well made system. Add the Tunze pulsed pumps and you have natural wave action that removes suspended particles in the water.

Okay so I settled for the fluval FX4. I think that should do just fine. I’m going to start looking for a HOB skimmer but that’s not important yet.

I have never seen a hang on the back skimmer that can compete with the Tunze internal skimmers...just saying it is a better product. Fluval is okay but I have 20 year old Eheims still running on customers tanks while the Marineland and Fluvals are long since in the trash bin. Anyway good luck and I think you have solved your space problem.

Have you thought of altering your stand ? Tear out the shelves and then make doors done.
