Star Polyp Elimination - Straight 35% H2o2

As the subject line suggests... Star Polyps Elimination.

I've been battling star polpys, mine aren't even green star polyps... just the absolute most bland start polyps you've ever seen.

I've taken rocks out and dosed the affected area in rubbing alcohol, let them sit out for a while, salt water rinse and back in the tank. They come back.

I've taken rocks out and dosed them with 3% H2o2, scrubbed them with a wire brush, salt water rinse, back in the tank. They come back.

I've taken rocks out and literally dosed them outside the tank with a thick kalkwasser paste. I let that air dry for a bit and gently place them back in the tank. Literally a coating of kalkwasser en-capsuling them for months.. and they come back from underneath the kalkwasser.

Today, I'm sitting looking at these dreaded things... So I take the rock out again. Mind you, I have a nice SPS frag attached to this rock, which is being surrounded at the base by these ugly star polyps... I grab 35% H2o2 off the shelf, fill a syringe and very carefully dose all the star polyps areas. I let that sit for about 5 minutes and I gently scrub those areas with a toothbrush, trying so hard not to get any spray on the SPS frag. Give the rock a saltwater rinse and back in the tank.

This was three hours ago... This looks promising. I swear, if these things can survive a 35% H2o2 soaking and scrubbing. Nothing will ever eliminate them. ;-)

where did you even find 35% LOL thats the industrial stuff
i couldnt even imagine the smell of that....just the 3% h202 makes organics smell so bad

Ordered direct from Blubonic Industries... 35% Food Grade H2o2. I dilute to treat small spots of GHA on occasion.

Torch lighter perhaps ....if nothing else is valuable on the rock you might try 24-48 hrs in salinity of about 10ish ....usually the bacteria make it through

Try boiling RODI and a turkey baster? Works wonders on GHA.

35% is great Im a full advocate. I use it at my place on the pico at times, rarely, thoroughly.

I have blueberry monti that is resistant to it

and most of my other corals. here's old vid, its been used like 100 times in my tank:

its highly dangerous agreed. the most powerful blinding agent you can buy otc but shouldnt unless you are darn serious about beating some invaders and then handling it like nuc waste quality eye consideration

that shrimp sat in runoff such that he was 100% bubbled. immune, I habituated him slowly over the years. I would guess that runoff mixed with partial water change was 20% strength
=strong, Ive been habituating my whole reef with 35% for ten years. I want it to have the harshest peroxide use of any tank, that way me recommending it to others isn't cheating.

the red mushroom I put it on=immune. doesnt even close it up. opens in 15 mins after water refill.

its shocking that this stuff will blanch your skin white, pain, but a blueberry monti can survive total bleaching with it. amazing coral adaptation. i dont have vid of the blueberry monti regeneration that video was back during regular brown monti testing days.

Plus one on Brandon’s warnings. A flick off of a brush and into your eye can blind you. Use a full face shield.

Also wanted to add that you can pick 35% H202 up locally at most hydroponics stores. It marketed as liquid oxygen.

Most anyplace that has a contract for sterilizing hospitals. My local Culligan handles it. At $16.00/gal it is a steal. 2.5 gals last me more than a year talk about clean filter socks. I dilute down to 10 for the socks.
