Where do you guys get your starboard? What kind do you get? How thick of a piece do i need?

It will be for me 90g since i am going bare bottom. I really dont want to get this stuff since its really expensive but do i really need starboard for bare bottom?

And you do not need a thick piece you can go with the thinnest sheet they have, if it was me I would go with a sheets.. Looks more like sand and a piece of mind that if a rock falls it will not crack the glass..... Just my opinion..

Exactly how will this work with the starboard if the rock falls (if heavy enough) wont it still crack the glass?

Sorry im new to this stuff :P

Sweet thanks!

BTW what does it mean for the tolerance? Not sure how that unit is measured on there. Also im not sure which one is better, natural or natural S/R?

Just pick whatever for tolerance im sure it does not mean anything really important, and i'd go with just natural, you can use the cut to size option (2nd tab on bottom) so you could just drop right in your tank!!

Naw, the glass will be supported flat by the stand.. And then if you put this above the glass a rock will not crack the glass it will need to break threw the board before it can crack the glass IMO unless it is like a 500pound rock maybe..

And if ur worried go with a thicker sheet like 0.750...

Edit- Think about it what would be able to take more abuse from a hammer, bare glass or glass with a pvc type sheet over it?

Ohh from what i seen i thought this board goes under the tank right against the glass bottom, not inside the tank?

Nooo "starboard" goes IN the tank lol..

Foam should be the only thing going inbetween a tank and stand! Or just the stand and tank...

Hey Ben!

I had asked several guys on the other forum about this and I'm sure you talked to Brian (corsi) about it. The glass is tempered on the bottom and should be alright. Depending on how you place your rocks it'll be hard for them to fall and do a straight dive to the bottom without bumping into something else (like another rock) first to slow it down or something. Tempered glass is pretty strong.

Yes tempered glass is very strong more so then regular glass imo... But a piece of mind for what $50.00 is nothing then coming home to a cracked tank.. Not saying it will happen but you never know! If you can prevent a possible disastor why not pay the allittle amount to be safe?

I'm also thinking bout going barebottom, sorry for highjacking Ben, but what is starboard and why do you need it for barebottom..?

Not only does it protect the glass from being shattered should a large rock fall, but it also reflects light back up into the tank like sand does. I also think it looks good. :D

Would u need to get two pieces to clear the center brace or would one whole piece be fine...
