My LFS has one in their display and the colour looks amazing and is apparently pretty chilled out for a damselfish.

My understanding is they are the most relaxed of all damselfish? What are people's experiences with them as I'm really tempted to try to get one. I imagine most people are put off because they are a damsel.

What do you currently have in the tank and how many gallons?

From what I have read they are one of the calmer damsels aside from a springeri damsel. I think it mostly depends on your stock and tank size whether it could be a suitable member. They are gorgeous fish!

Springeri, azure, and tricincta are all more chill. However, starcki damsels are pretty well behaved, but tank size and tankmates play a role as well.

Mine was very peaceful apart from with a yellow wrasse added afterwards. I put them in the pretty peaceful catagory and the won't take much crap from similar sized fish catagory, so a fish that can stand up for itself a little but doesn't necessarily dish it out. I wouldn't keep one with very timid fish but in the average reef with enough space it should do fine.

I have azure's at the moment and they don't bother anything apart from me when I put my hand in and the male attacks defending his eggs. In another tank I have a group of allens and they don't attack me when defending eggs but do chase other fish away.
