Starfire glass scratches

So I was cleaning w my magfloat....and ‘somehow’ something got under the OUTER magnet causing a few scratches.

Has anyone ever tried buffing the scratches out of the glass with some of those wet buffing wheels ??

Likely particles of sand. Very fine 800 grit sandpaper should work , but unless it is an eye sore, Id let it go until the day comes when you need to empty the tank

Have you tried the Mr. Clean Magic Erasers? thin strips between the mag float can help buff the glass out.

If it not an eye sore, let it be. I have seen a local reefer trying to get scratches out of a waterbox and he messed it up pretty bad.

I am getting ready to set up my small cube again. It had a fairly large scratch on front. With water not very noticeable but it bothered me.

I searched and tried a kit from glass polish xnet.

I bought a few extras from the base kit including the coarse pads.

Since it was my first time trying I did not use the coarse pad. Although it probably would have made all go faster. I probably have 3-4 hours into the project.

But I can attest that it can be done. I used the pad to sand scratch out yesterday, stepped up a pad, sanded and then buffed/polished it today.

It’s basically like rubbing paint out on a car. But a but slower.

Also wanted to mention the scratch was deep enough to catch with your finger nail.

yes... If you have large or deep scratch you may want to include the coarse disk. I ordered extras. However the kit would have been enough for the scratch I removed...

Crap, I found another scratch... Now I want to fix this one also before putting water in... Its on opposite side of front glass. If I don't fix I know I will regret... good thing I bought extra pads

I finally got started on the other scratch i found
This time i started with the coarse disk. It definetly took the scratch out faster. But... i gave myself a bit more work, if you use the coarser disk it is very important to hold the disk fairly flat. Also you may not want to press as hard. I had to work out a couple of the coarser scratches that came from the disk. Since i had plenty of the 60 grit disks i spent more time in the prepolish sanding. I also was more liberal with the use of the buffing compound. I am approaching 4 hours again. This area had a long scratch, along with a short deeper scratch. I think if i was a bit more carefull i could have knocked off some time.

When finished i will post a couple photos.
