What do you think the best magnet cleaner is out there for starfire glass? Currently using a credit card type of plastic. But i'm hoping there are nice magnets out there that will not scratch the glass.

I use magnavore 4er I clean wet side before use. I also use a mag float with a easy blade to get coralline off. I have had 3 different starphire tanks only time you can scratch the glass is if grain of salt is caught between the glass and magnet.

We have 2 starphire display tanks and we just use the gold ole mag float with razor attachment. No scratches whatsoever from the razor or magfloat.

I use The Hammerhead Float magnet and really like it over the Magfloat. I use a nice soft felt doubled and sometimes tripled up on the dry side for ease of use/slideability.

The only negative with The Hammerhead is the magnet is very strong and hard to slide back and forth...hence the added felt. But I use added felt so I do not scratch glass too.

BTW: I us felt left over from re-felting my billiards table, but I am sure you can find a nice felt material just about anywhere.

Honestly, I'm terrified of using the hammerhend on my starphire glass. The glass is 3/4" thick, so the hammerhead slides pretty easily, but I'm still concerned. I just use a credit card on all of the glass, it's a pain but I know there is no way I'm going to scratch anything doing it that way.

Algae free makes a few models off the top of my head they are the piranha, tiger shark, hammerhead, and great white. Each is for a different glass thickness, if your hammerhead is difficult to slide you bought the wrong one and could use one of the lesser models.

That's why I don't use any type of magnet cleaner. I only need to clean my glass once a week with a algae pad.

I've been using The Hammerhead for close to two years on my Miracles custom starphire tank without a single scratch......fwiw.

The problem with starfire is that it is so soft. Mine has a few lovely scratches in it. I've scratched it with a razor blade before (actually a friend did it!) and I use a very large grain sand and didn't see a couple of pieces that got picked up and scratched the heck out of the glass. My magnet cleaner is an Algae Free Hammerhead. I really love the Hammerhead more than mag-floats as it is very aesthetically pleasing and strong. Just be careful and you will be fine. I was careless but you can't really see the scratches unless you're looking for them.

Thanks for all the responses! I didn't think i would get so many but that is just great.
