I have a UV sterilizer.. or had since I shut it off today. and have not been able to keep a starfish , fromia, sand sifting, another fromia for a good length of time. I wonder now, since the UV is reducing bacterial and algal populations in the water, and starfishes use the same water to feed on, the two are not compatible. ( Corals too for that matter, since they consume bacteria as well). maybe I could have a more thriving system without my UV.

have any of you used a UV and successfully kept a starfish like Fromia for more than a year?

im almost sure that corals would thrive more too .. but that is harder to compare for most reefers.

thoughts / experiences?

I dont personally use uv on anything but my koi pond.
