Post your starfish pics in this thread I wanna see some sea stars. I used to have a chocolate chip star but he died and I realized that they do not do well in captivity and I will no longer get one until they are captive bred.

How do you like your blue starfish? Almost picked one up the other day. Any issues with a well stocked reef?
I loved (past tense) it but...

I impulsively added it to a not so ready for a starfish tank. It lived about 9 months and then passed. My fault for not waiting. I heard that the red linckia are hardier than the blues. I have no idea if it is true or not.

It was surprisingly fast and was all over the tank/rocks. Never hiding. I am looking for more photos. I have them somewhere.

Chocolate chip star -- still going strong after about 1 year and multiple tank transfers:

Micro brittle stars, in case these count (just cause I think this is a cool pic):

Looks like an invasion!

What do you feed your Red or Blue starfish with? let them scavenge for food via detritus or you target feed them or broadcast or what not?

The problem with starfishes is that they’ll eventually start to starve and fall apart, I’ve kept the red ones for longer but again I haven’t heard of a starfish living for longer than a year or two in a tank, really sad to see them just disintegrate slowly

Yep, that about sums it up. I think you need a large and very established tank to keep one longer than a year.

Scavenge the tank. It would eat pellets and mysis off of the sandbed, I would try to make sure that it had more than the rocks to eat from.
