starfish help

I was looking to start a simple saltwater aquarium with simply one or a couple starfish and perhaps some plants or something if that is necessary. I was wondering with something this simple if it would be possible to just use something like a large plastic bin woth regular water changes, filtration, and lighting? What do you guys think are the minimum requirements for just one or a couple starfish?

Totally depends on the species of Star Fish. Most require a very well established, large mature tank. With the exception of the Brittle Star and Serpent. Although these two can also get quite large, and in that type of a setup you may never see them. Just do your research on the species you like.

Yea, you could use a large tupperware container, or storage bin for it. Just gotta watch those, they tend to get brittle the older they get, from the lighting.

The reef safe stars such as fromias and linkias require stable and mature systems. Brittle and serpent stars can handle less stable conditions, as can the non reef safe stars, such as choc chip stars and general stars.

choosing species

I may set up a full aquarium (dedicated to only starfish) and not just a bin if necessary but I was hoping to keep it small if I do so (30 gallons tops). I was wondering what types of starfish would do well in something that small and what specific requirements they would have.

Just get a chocolate chip and sand star easy and Hardy

Stay away from sand sifting stars!!!! They need large aquariums with live sand to stay alive or they easily starve. Chocolate chips get pretty big, like most starfish. Look at the ones on liveaquaria, I saw some that are pretty and stay under 6", so they should be okay in a 30
