Thanks everyone!

That's an asterina starfish. Some of them eat coral, some of them are harmless. People have different opinions about them, but I remove them when I find them.

Thanks for the info! I don't have any coral in here right now so I'll keep an eye on him and see how it goes...right now I think he's too small to do any damage.

My personal experience is they eat my zoas. Everything else is fine though. They can multiply fast.

Definitely get it out of your tank. Before you have alot more.

Not sure on spelling but i think harliquin shrimp eat them. But they also eat other starfish to.

Don't let the size fool you lol. I have them as well and lost rasta and candy apples zoa's because of them. Some seem to only stay on the glass and others will seem to hunt down zoa's.

The pure white ones seem to be safe, but the color on that one's back...it looks just like the little stinker that ate my montipora.

There doesn't seem to have been much work done on the study and ID of the different asterina species.

Fwiw, mine are dark backed and have never touched corals.

There is a chance my montipora died for other reasons...but to be honest I couldn't see it for a time because I had a horrible greenwater problem.

Here are are scrambled eggs getting eaten as we speak! You can see the star where the rock meets the plug. Sorry bad camera pic.
