Hey everyone.

Picked up a used set up online the other day and it came with this starfish. I can’t seem to find any info on it and the seller didn’t remember it’s species. It’s been cruising around the tank for the most part and looks like it’s starting to dig through the sand?

Also, what do I need to feed these guys? The seller said he didn’t give it anything but I want to make sure it does well.

It has orange tips and is a dark brownish color.

Any specific type of meaty food? All I have at the moment is some freeze dried krill, so I soaked a piece and put it under him. He moved over top of it so I’m thinking he is eating it?

Most likely.

Similar, not exactly like that one. The body is a fairly uniform dark brown with orange on the knobs.

How often should I feed it, and any recommended foods?

My chocolate chip starfish wanters around and eats leftovers. I tried to feed multiple times it just released the food.

He's still in the same spot he was last night and the piece of krill is no where to be found, so I am assuming he is eating it?

Anything special I should know care wise for these guys? From a google search it seems they are not reef safe, which means he will need a new home later on down the road when I start to add corals. Anyone here have these guys?

It's not reef safe. Any meaty foods will do, but if you plan on having a reef I'd get rid of it. We used to buy these and chocolate chip stars to feed our harlequin.

Hello Bird Guy, meaty foods I would think ,mean a piece of shrimp , fish, maybe a small clam . Something from the sea .

That's a bummer, I like the little guy. It will be a while I think until I feel comfortable and ready to dive into corals....well, I say that now. Planning on really tinkering around with the tank over the long weekend.

I'll take a look at some frozen foods that are available. How often should I feed him?
