So I forgot to feed my tank last night and awoke to find a bite sized chunk missing from the middle of my starfish's leg. When I got home from work the leg was completely severed and lying on the sand bed. I've heard that legs can regrow, and also that a severed limb can also regrow into a new starfish..... so do I remove leg or wait to see what happens? Nitrates currently at 15ppm

Ps for some reason I can't upload pics to R2R from my iPhone....

It depends on what type of starfish. Generally, most common starfish need the central area to regrow from. So i would remove the limb, personally instead of letting it deteriorate.

I have a big brittle starfish that only has 4 legs and will never regrow because the body (the circular middle part) was eaten along with the leg.
If a leg gets cut off, most can regenerate but if the body gets ripped off with the leg, it wont have anywhere to regenerate from.

And unless you have a harlequin, I would remove it.
