I have a feel like a million starfish, they keep reproducing like crazy i have read that you can buy a harqluen shrimp . But im sertain if i buy one my fish will eat him .puffers and triggers ! Is there an alternative to get rid of all there starfish

My brittle star ate one once, but I think that's just because I knocked it off the glass during feeding time.

Are they causing a problem? I freaked out when I first saw Asterinas in my tank and was pulling every one out I could find. That got old fast. Really wasn't making a dent in the population. Now I just live with them. Never seen any harm done by them. I know some have had varieties that do cause problems but most don't.

I have them too. Never thought of them as a pest. I was under the assumption that they were algae grazers. Part of my cuc. I have read they will eat coraline algae, and may go after zoos. Though I've never seen this. I will say, many people who look at my tank are expected to see "little starfish"

X2 and I've noticed when my nitrates and phosphates are higher they pop up everywhere. When I reign them back they decrease

They will eat your coralline algae but otherwise harmless. Harlequin Will do the job

Harlequin shrimp is great, just keep in mind after they all gone so as your harlequin too

What about a wrasse? I had a bunch until I added my wrasse, and there would be less of a chance of a wrasse becoming a snack for your other fish. Also you will have more feeding options when they are gone where a harlequin will need fed with starfish bought at your LFS to stay alive.

As others stated, their populations tend to come and go. 99% of them are harmless. I normally just pull them out when I see them on the glass and leave the rest alone as part of the CUC.
