Starfish Question

Does anyone have an Enchinaster Sentus? The Common Florida Sea Star? I’ve heard they are hardy little guys and may be able to live in a nano. But I know all starfish are hard to keep and typically don’t live a really long time in captivity especially compared to in the wild.

Can I see photos? Where did you get the little guy? I was reading they can be supplementally fed and may be great for a nano tank.

I was looking into these guys.
Seems like they are harder than most when it comes to water and temp and such, but still would wind up with the same feeding issues.

The next time he comes out of the sand, I'll take a picture for you. I bought him at a LFS in West Palm Beach

I'm assuming hes eating food that makes it down in to the sand bed. Every once in a while he will climb the glass. Thats always fun to see

Off topic but I'm in love with my orange Linckia! I've had him about 4 or 5 months and he's doing great...the funniest thing about him is that he literally sleeps sometimes...seems weird for starfish to take naps

Its just a 10 gallon... they're notoriously hard to keep though according to others. I used all live rock straight from the ocean though which I think helps him...all the bacterial diversity that creates biofilm is what I suspect he primarily eats

My Orange linckia starfish actually takes naps throughout the day which I find pretty interesting haha

You can try one but try to make sure he has food or detritus to eat

The trick is to find what yr starfish eats , I had a red linkia and it enjoyed biofilm and sponges - kept for over 6 months but lost due to mantis shrimp getting hungry lol

I think it's safe to say you wanna stay away from Linckias at least at this point even though they're some of the most beautiful since they come in red, orange, and blue

They definitely need live rock from the ocean I think , I would watch it eat all my yellow ball sponges lol

I agree...I think it has to do with the biofilm they consume that the countless bacterial strains form daily

I think everyone does lol. They are the hardest starfish to keep in captivity and are expert-level.
