Chocolate Chip star fish are very hardy, but will eat everything in your tank. Don’t know about SPS though.
Anything with spikes is not reef safe. I mean that any starfish that has what looks like spikes on it is probably a predator. Linkias and Fromias were the go to reef safe stars but lots of good husbandry info for these has come out within the last few years. I stay away from linkias (blue linkias) because they tend to get large and they need to feed on sponges. I want to keep the sponges in my system and don't want them being eaten. Fromias (red fromias) are beautiful and as mentioned before, very delicate and not for beginners. I have a lot of serpentine stars [] in my system. What are called sand stars [] are also easy to care for. They're common here and finding a small one makes a good addition to the tank.
