This picture just struck me as funny. ;Joyful The red serpent star is one of the inhabitants of my original tank, which I upgraded to my current 90-gallon tank 6 years ago. I'm guessing I've had the starfish for a good 9 years or so (original system is 12 years old). He's generally already in hiding in the morning, but this morning was sprawled all over the glass....doing a little yoga maybe? Let's see those "stars!"

I have muted brown brittle stars and no pics. I’ve been on a wait list at 4 fish stores for one of the red serpents for a few months...one day I hope to have one

Wow, that's crazy! I actually had a HUGE black brittle star in the tank along with the red. I had them both for years. The red either came from Liveaquaria or my LFS...I can't even remember, it's been so long!

good to hear you kept more than one!! I would like to have a red and an orange one. I’m waiting on “in stock” emails too!! The stores around here say they are just not common :(

@ReefGrammie !!! I kid you not, I just got a call from the lfs, this baby came in last night!!! I don’t think it looks the greatest...and they want $125 for it. Ughhh...I don’t want to waste $125 on a sickly one...what do you think?! Does it look ok??

They called again. It was a local trade in...it’s missing the ends of 3 legs and there’s a little flesh exposed on the body...Another pic because it is beautiful :(

Wow, it's pretty! Mine always seems to be missing the end of a leg or two. That's pretty pricey, but you know, if you really want it, you need to do it! Let me know!

is it considered an impulse buy if I’ve been on a wait list for months??
Edit: it’s huge. 3g bucket for reference. The flesh I saw on the body was a bit of mysis, not starfish flesh so that’s good!!

Absolutely not an impulse buy! When I said it seemed pricey, I was going on at least 8-9 years of past experience without a pandemic going on. I hope the starfish does great! I don't generally feed mine, but I will pass him a piece of thawed krill on the tongs every week or so, which he seems to appreciate! :)

hey @ReefGrammie! She came out to eat today and took some shrimp from me finally! at one point there were two porcelain crabs trying to steal her shrimp but she won. I guess she’s doing ok, first time I've seen her out at feeding time. The tips of her broken legs are growing back. It’s really big...I’m so amazed.

Color is just beautiful! I hope she does well for a long time. It sounds like she's well cared for! :)
