Is that a starfish crawling on the snail? Where did he come from?

thats an asterina starfish.
I pick them out and toss them because Ive found them eating my zoas before on new frags. Its all about preference though. Some like them, some dont.
He is a hitch hiker. either came in on the snail or a frag or rocks, who knows lol

There are lots of individual species of asterina. Asterina is a genus, not a species. From my experience the ones with the blue or red/orange speckles will mess with corals. You can control them in a reef tank with bumble bee shrimp or harlequin shrimp.

^yup times 2! What I found was all white to grey seem to be OK with corals. Those that are dark are the coral eaters. Since I'm color blind, can't say if it's red/orange...just dark. That picture of the one you have, I'd pull it.

Yeah, I would pull that one too.

I have dozens in my frag tank. Have yet to eat any zoas. As long as your tank has some gunk or algae, I wouldn't worry about them.

Iv well over hundred in my tank all the different colors ,spots ,no spots, grey to blue ,white and iv never had a problem with them ,iv sps lps soft many different zoas
All I'll say is if you have a dieing coral than they will clean it up , not so sure they will eat a healthy coral unless there's die off
Just my 2cents worth
