Does anyone have a tank with starphire glass? Did you order it that way or did the tank just come with it? Can you tell the difference?

Whenever I am able to get a new tank, I was looking at ordering one from Glasscages since they are in Tenn. To add starphire glass to the tank would be an extra $265 for all 3 sides. The issue I have is that I would be able to view my tank from all 4 sides, so there would be one pane that is normal glass...and I think that would be annoying...

Just looking for your opinions...

How thick will the glass be?

And yes if the glass is good quality low iron glass then you will be able to tell the difference.

They don't say, but I know it would be 1/2" or greater. The tank I'm looking at is a 175 Square (36" x 36" x 31").

Steer clear of glass cages they have a history of tank failures. There is a reason they are so inexpensive as they cut corners in quality and seams fail

Really wasn't looking at them because they were cheap, I was looking at them because they were 2 hours away from my house and I could drive to pick it up, but thanks for the heads up...

After the heads up from kuyatwo, I went out online and read the reviews about glasscages....and everyone is saying the same thing, they make awful aquariums...

With that being said, who would you recommend for a cube in the 30-36" range?

I got mine Reef Savy out of Miami.....never had a tank without it...so much clearer and the rainbow of colors you can see when you look from the side is really cool...

Reef Savvy is a sponsor of ours and makes great tanks. We also have sponsors that sell mass manufactured aquariums.

I will say that the price tags are going to be considerably higher I would imagine than glasscages.

You can, without question, notice the difference in low iron glass vs. regular glass. I just received my new tank with low iron front and while it's not wet, the difference is certainly apparent.

If you wanted to we could build you one, I can get some prices together for you. Do you want rimless or eurobraced?

My experience with low iron glass is that if you look at it beside regular glass you can see a difference but once the tank is set up I don't think I would notice it. Personally, I wouldn't pay the extra coin for it.

I will never go back to regular glass for a display tank. On starphire tank when glass is clean it looks like fish is swimming in air.

I would also have to say its worth getting starphire.. I've had a few tanks and I would never have a larger tank with out it. Standard glass has a green hue.. Starphire is clear with just a very hint of blue.. For saltwater its easy figure which looks better.

Both my big tanks with starphire came from www.miraclesaquariums.com They build a great tank.

i have a glasscages starphire tank, take a look at my build thread in my sig as it may help you decide.

Not trying to make this thread a glasscages thread. Just wanted to say we have a 90g tank at work made by glasscages. We have kept soft corals and LPS in it for the last 8-9 years. Its a nice tank. I don't see anything wrong with it. I'm sure if I took calipers and walked around it, I could find deviations in the cuts and craftsmanship, but overall its nice.

I can say the same as Jason. I have a 3 side starphire tank from glass cages. It is super clear and you can tell.

I have 4 GC tanks and all have worked well for me at the store.Mike can build a nice tank as well.I also have an Ocea tank but heard they have really stepped in it lately. As far as the starphire glass I can't see the difference but as most of you know I am color blind so 3D does not work good for me either.LOL
