Good morning all reefers

Bought a starry blenny 4 days ago to help out with some GHA, acclimated for about an hour and poured tank water every 15 minutes.. Once added he looked great, he was nipping at GHA right away like if he's been here before, seemed comfortable right off the bat the 1st couple of days.. The last couple days he's been hanging out under an arc in the sand and breathing heavy.. He comes out for feeding and comes out here and there and swims for a bit and goes back to the same spot.. The heavy breathing amd the hiding under a rock is what has me worried.. Other than that he looks good..

Tank mates
2 clarkii
1 coral beauty
1 melanarus wrasse
3 chromis
1 sleeper banded goby

Tank parameters
Ph 8.2
Salinity 34
Ammonia 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 10
Pho 0.30 Currently working on lowering it

Anything helps thank you

Blennies as a group will often breath faster than other fish. However, if you are seeing an increase in the breathing rate, that is a sign of some problem. As mentioned, a video taken under white light will help use estimate the rate.

Update: Found it dead under the arc when i got home from work.. It looked healthy, not sure if my acclimation was proper or if the fish was sick.. Keeping an eye out for the other fish but everyone seems to be like usual

Salinity at 1.034?

Salinity at 1.034?

Salinity at 34 is about natural seawater. You are talking about specific gravity, 34 ppt salinity is equal to a specific gravity of about 1.025

For some reason, here on Reef2Reef many people use the word "salinity" but then give the results as specific gravity. To confuse matters, then some people drop the leading one and zeros.

There is a really good converting web site here:
