Well I have a 46 gallon bow that was doing great, but recently I have had a cyano and bubble algae bloom. I can't get rid of it and I've had it. I was thinking of removing the few fish and coral i have and placing them in a small tank while I pull all the rock out. I was thinking about scrubbing rock with a brush to get as much algae as I can off and placing them in a bucket of water from my tank. Then I thought about stirring up the sand and cranking up my power heads for a few days to try and get rid of the cyano. Does this sound like somthing that could work? Any advice or input would be great, thanks!

I really wouldn't stir up the sand bed that much.ive had the same problem in past.Ihave taken rocks out and scrubbed them though. One water change day I would first use small airline that I have attached a rigid plastic tube and then go around and vacuum as much off the rocks as I can.then with larger vacuum lightly vac the sand bed I run that all through a filter sock into a bucket.that keeps the big chinks out of the water. Then take rock out and scrub in tank water and replace.only do a few at a time and as you remove them be gentile taking them out they will be full of junk.it is a lot of work but over time you will get it all under control. I hope this isn't confusing

You do not want to stir up the sand bed all at one time. Nor do you want to disturb the rock work unless absolutely necessary.

Better interventions are to add or choose the appropriate clean up crew. Check your water for elevated nutrients, phosphates and nitrates. Make sure you are not over feeding. Use only RODI water for water changes and top off.

What are you using for flow?
