Came home this afternoon and noticed 2 of my chromis have 1-2 white spots on tail fins that were not there earlier today. I tried to get a pic but hard to get a decent shot. I am wondering if this is the result of disease or fighting? Chromis have been in tank 2 mos. tank was empty when they were introduced. Just placed 2 new fish from lfs 4 days ago.

I also now see a spot on new rabbitfish pec fin that was not there/visible at time of purchase.... ugh. Have a feeling I have introduced something I dont want

Todays update: all fish are acting normal and are readily feeding. Abnormalities on fins have seemingly resolved... not sure what I was seeing last night at this point.

Might be a mild case of lymphocystis, try to feed them good foods treated with something like selcon. Creating as much of a stress-free environment will also help.

Sorry nobody responded sooner, good to hear that they are doing better this morning.

Is it possible you had something kick up sand that stuck to the fish?

There were noticeable abnormalities on the tail fins of chromis and one spot on pec fin of rabbitfish and it did not look like any sand or substrate. I had been watching them all day and they seemed normal. Went to dinner, came back, and I noticed the bizarre spots on fins but they were still acting normal. Fish have not acted any differently. I have video that may show spots better but not sure if I can post video to TT. Aside from the new rabbitfish, I did also add 6lbs live rock if that adds anything to the puzzle. When I saw it I was sure that it at least looked parasitic in nature but I was confused as to how fast it popped up. Equally confused as to how fast it seemingly went away. I did dose w prime and something like stress coat last night before bed, fwiw. Not sure if that did anything or not, but it was all I had at home to throw at it before leaving town for a week.

Well, whatever it was it wasn't one of the parasites we normally deal with. Ich will stay visible for at least a day or two before dropping off. Lympho also will not disappear after only a few hours.
Hopefully it will not come back, whatever it was!

Agree.

I might also add that if you don’t quarantine, in today’s environment you’re going to be in for a very ugly surprise..

So these things keep showing up intermittently. I am thinking it is an isopod of some sort at this time? Can go days without seeing one, and then suddenly there will be one attached to the fins of rabbitfish normally. Earlier he had one, now there are two. Appx the size of a small grain of rice and I can visibly see two eye spots on one
