First or second? May do 1 or 2 small islands in front of the tower.
Also thinking of knocking off some of the bottom of the piece hanging off on the right to create some more negative space.

The cardboard closely represents tank bottom dimensions. The tank is actually about 2" wider than the cardboard, so I can spread things out a bit.

I'd go higher with one or the other, unless you are doing SPS, which will give you a height difference.

also, you stated you have 2" clearance outside the cardboard. make sure you leave enough room to get a glass cleaner through.

What type of corals do you plan to have? If you want something that grows a bunch and takes over, than islands are good to control the spread. If you are looking for things that grow tall then shorter rock work is better. If you don't plan on that then I would add some height. All that said I like the first one better.

Probably just gonna be softie and LPS tank. Overall height is 13" and I think the viewing area if the RSM250 is 22" high. Was thinking of the 2/3 rule when I set the height. Couple inches of coral growth on top should put me right there.
Was thinking high points would be good for euphillia type stuff to give them space.

As far as making one taller, I agree. It seems kinda flat. I have a couple ideas to play with here if I get time later.
This is 40# of rock so, I'm still shy of the pound/gallon rule.
Thought a couple short islands in front would add some depth and get me closer to the target weight.

Viewing angles will be mostly from the front and left sides.

I did island in my RSR350 and I really like it. Below is the start to today

For my Nuvo 30 I went with one structure, but it's all the same height and I wish I had broken it up more
