First fish tank for me is near ready to get wet and cycle. But as I'm researching...

Seems like I should get my QT setup and first fish put in that now, so I can observe the fish for a month.

By then, the DT should be ready for a healthy fish.

Is this correct? No one tells you this but this is what all research points to. A sick fish in a new tank that has no corals or other fish is still going to contaminate the new tank (with ICH, whatever). Right?

Am I missing something?

I’m doing that right now. The only issue is that it seems my new tank keeps getting delayed which can put you in a pickle. I have another DT so isn’t an issue for me but would suggest following the humblefish approach to QT and actively Medicate.

Hehe- the warnings about delays crack me up. I'm 2 months behind where I thought I'd be by now... but ready enough.

My tank came in today so going to my LFS tomorrow and will start the couple day process of filling it up

This is what I do. Even with corals, I usually start a frag tank before I do a tank build. This gives you a leverage of having the right stocks pest free and keep you away from headaches.
