Hiya

So yes indeed, started the tank up yesterday and it's cloudy. Apparently that's normal, which is fine, just I'm wondering about the powerheads; can the cloudy-ness actually clog up the powerheads?

It looked like it was settling down, so we thought maybe install the powerheads, see what happens..fyi yes it is exactly what I expected and it's now all stirred up again! Lol Oh well. We've since removed them now that we know they work properly (we had them in about 5 mins tops) and thought I'd ask more or less out of curiosity, even if they can get clogged up I don't think we're in danger.

Thanks guys! Hope this gives you a bit of a chuckle! :P

I would just let the sand settle but yes it is possible to jam up a powerhead if it is pulling too much sand in.

It won't clog up the powerheads, no worries, it will all settle by itself.

Did you rinse the sand thoroughly. I know I didn't on my first attempt and it stayed milky until I drained the water, rinsed the sand and started over.

Considering how cloudy it is I'm gonna go out on a limb and say no I did not clean it enough lol though I did read the bag afterwards and it did say that you don't even need to clean the sand at all, just give it 24-48 hours

My experience was even when it settled a bit, every time I moved the water even slightly it would get cloudy again. I used caribsea live sand. Eventually I just drained and rinsed. After that, my tank settled in no time and no more issues with cloudiness.

I agreed, I didnt rinse the sand and it did settle but the sand storm would come back when I decided to move some of the LR around. Best to not be lazy and rinse it, I learnt it the hard way.
