Started Reef Tank / Advice Needed

We just started adding coral to our tank. We started with Xenia and just added a few different varieties yesterday. We are really enjoying our corals and any advise that anyone has about it is welcomed.Oh and one question, we have our corals attached with rubber bands, how do we know that they have attached and when it will be time to remove the rubber bands. We don't want to remove them too soon because the rubber bands are strategically placed. Thanks everyone!

you will see when the coral starts spreading on the rock. it will be pretty obvious.

That's awesome!! You should find the help you need here! Good luck! :D

Just make sure the rubber band is not too tight. You want it to be just tight enough to keep the coral in place, but not squeezing much. If it comes off (rubber band cuts off the piece on the rock), just re rubberband it less tight.

I'd use cheesecloth or pantyhose. With zenia and other softies, it usually takes a couple days. You'll know they're attached when you lift whatever you have holding them down off, and they don't float away :)
I stay away from rubberbands since it stresses the coral out and takes them longer to "foot".

Hey Scouncil, your panty hose makes a good carbon sack too, I used some of my wife's in my freshwater tank, lol.
