Started sump for first time- how do I level out the flow?

Yep, get that tube out of the top and plug the sides then use the vinyl tubing very very slowly lowering or raising it until the flow takes off, steadies out and becomes silent. Only make the hole large enough for the tube to fit snugly so it stays in place by friction.
If you don't want to mess with that standpipe research a Stockman version of the Durso which is a much better design or buy a Maggie Muffler which is a ready made Stockman.

If you're happy with how it flows with the airline plugged go with that. You could get an airline valve so that it's adjustable and non permanent, for different pumps etc.

I am looking at the stockman.. I am confused.

basically, I am not having the U-shaped pipe, I am taking the U part off, having one straight up pipe, and adding the stockman on it? That bit will be underwater, and the inline tube will be out of the water?

The problem is the ridgid airline is not at the optimal depth inside the elbow. Trust me, it makes a huge difference. Everyone who trys it is amazed at how well it works when you hit the sweet spot with the tubing.

Yes the Stockman is a shrouded design so the water enters between the pipe and the coupling on top. It is more compact since it doesn't have the elbows and is better protected from critters.

I tried to take the hard pipe out.. broke it and got it pinched at the hole. I can't grab it anymore with the pliers. It did stop the ebbing adn flowing, but still sucking in air a little. not as bad as it was before.

I will have to ask my dad to bring out his drill next time.. I do not own a drill.

Carlos, you mean make the hole bigger?

I can slow the flow too

This is what I had to do

More airflow needed. Yes. See how once it gets a blend of air from side in first vid it then fills back up. The second vid those holes are plugged so only way to pull air is once the full siphon breaks. I'm leaning with larger air hole on top, or, fiddling with vinyl tubing to feed air.

OK, I went out and got myself a drill bit (keep meaning to buy a set).

Drilled a hole at the top, and the waterline leveled out about half an inch over the hole. I tried sticking an airline tube there, but then the water ebbed and flowed again, even after adjusting the tubing in and out. I just took the airline tube out and left it open.

is it crucial to have a tubing there, aside from silencing it?

The water should not be over the hole. That tells me it is not flowing correctly. With the airline snugly in place so it is not sucking air around the tubing and adjusted to the right depth, the level will drop down close to the bottom of the elbow.

Hard piped to sump or vinyl tubing? Does the drain go under water level in sump or does it sit above water line? Are there any sags in it if vinyl? Possible to get a pic of sump plumbing?
How does it act with the hole open on top the restrict return pump flow to stop at water level desired?

The new hole is at the top, and it keeps the water level above the holes on the sides.. the side holes are no longer gulping for air.
here's the sump plumbing. the other end of that horizontal pipe is flexible tubing that goes to the pump. I hope it's not a plumbing issue- for it's all glued together now.

New issue- the intake line in the sump, one of them is bubbling over and now that's noisy. it bubbles without the sock too.. the pipe goes about a quarter of an inch below waterline-- I can make it longer if I need to. Hardly any water is coming out of the first line. it is louder than the overflow at this point. Here's a photo of it:

every time I put the tube in the hole, no matter how far down I go, it brings the waterline down to the side holes and causes it go gasp for air. If I cover the side holes, the water line then ebbs and flows and is loud

You're still having the ebb and flow issue though correct? If so, see if the surge occurs in unison with the pipe coming above the water line. Like if the tank goes up, the sump goes down, then when the water line breaks below the sump drain, then the "flush" happens and the sump fills as the display flushes. Plumbing looks good.
