Starter Fish?

Would 2 small clowns be to much of a bioload for a newly cycled tank? Only planning on stocking with 3/4 fish but don’t know what to go with first, i’d like to keep the following

2 Clowns
1 Watchman or Coral goby

And possibly a bangaii Cardinal but im not 100% sure i want to keep one in the long run hence why im asking about the clown pair

I'd start with the gobies since they tend to be really shy fish.

How big of a tank do you have? Whenever you add new fish you should monitor ammonia levels even if the fish you add is small

Got the red sea reefer nano so total of 105 liters including the sump, display is a 45cm cube, ive read that goby’s are better going into an established system but not seen any reason explaining why so i think im going to take your advice and go with the goby

I started with 2 clowns in my 80 gallon. After 2 - 3 weeks I added my goby shrimp pair. But I tested EVERYDAY to monitor my levels.

If you are limiting yourself to only 3-4 fish and we are looking at a nano size I would definitely buy a young pair of clowns. My LFS purchases from ORA and they have a beautiful selection to pick from. Mine were labeled as “paired” when shipped to my LFS and I picked them up the day they arrived in their original shipping bags.

Yea i went to a lfs today just to have a look round im in the uk so abit far from me im afraid haha, only just started my cycle so got plenty of time to make a decision, are there any other fish you would recommend for a possible 4th fish, im only after something that stays relatively small to give the illusion that the tank is bigger if that makes sense lol

If you like to see action in your tank resist the urge to purchase a Banggai Cardinal. I have both a Banggai and a Pajama Cardinal and as pretty as they are to look at they stationary and usually hang out in one corner of my tank. My 2 Gladiator Clowns are constantly moving and grooving and provide plenty of entertainment. In addition I have a yellow Assessor that swims allover the place including sideways and occasionally upside down and is worthy of consideration.

My wife refers to the Banggai and the Pajama Cardinals as her "duds"!
