Starting 3 part (BRS) but worried about over dosing

All =8 Calcium=380 and Magnisum is 1050. I want to raise the magnesium to 1300. ( 50 gallon frag tank) I looked at the BRS calcator and that wants me to add 600 mililiters of Magnisum. Obviously I don't want to add it all in one go. So was wondering what a good daily dose would be to raise the level safely without to mush stress to everything.

“For larger swings, it may be necessary to spread the dose out throughout multiple days to avoid raising the magnesium level more than 100ppm per day.” per the BRS website.

I would spread it out over a week in even amounts.

Mg is the easy one. Only need to worry about salinity changes. Adding Ca or Alk too much too fast can cause issue or precipitate out. Mg is not the one to worry about is all I’m saying.

How are you measuring magnesium and what is your salinity?

If this is a new tank (meaning you have not been doing a lot of alk and calcium dosing to date) at 35 ppt salinity, your magnesium is likely higher than you think.

Its been up and running about 3 months so new tank. Testing with a nyos test kits. Salinity is reading 1.025 with refractometer that's calibrated

600 milliliter is not too bad, just make sure you don’t raise it over 100ppm a day as stated earlier. Adjust the numbers on brs calculator to fin how many ml’s is 100ppm. I had to dose 3,000+ ml’s when I started my tank. It was 400 gallons though. [emoji23]

Then I believe the test kit is in error and I would not recommend dosing.

That salt will have far higher magnesium, and magnesium testing is very prone to error, especially using the Red Sea kit. It will not have depleted in your tank.

i personally would do nothing, but testing with another kit brands (from whatever kit you are using) is an alternate path forward.
