I got my wife a little 10 gal nano. Going to do a predominantly shroom tank. What fish would you suggest? No clowns in this one, would love to have a wrasse, but I don't think it's enough room. She isn't a fan of cardinals.

Although online sites will tell you otherwise, I've had a six-line wrasse in my 10 gallon cube for nearly a year. It's a very healthy, active, and colorful fish that has been a great addition to the tank.

If it's the only fish then it's a bit cramped but should be okay. That said, no way would I mix a 6 line with any other fish especially in a tank that small.

@the OP, a Possum Wrasse could work in a 10 gallon tank as well as another fish (ie Clown Goby).

Tailspot blenny would be a good choice, they also pick at algae. I also really like rainford gobies for nano tanks.

Sadly my tailspot made it one month in a 7g. He was finicky eating and didn’t really pick at the hair algae. Sad thing prob starved. I’m thinking one juvenile clown to try again.

Pink streaked or possum wrasse are great peaceful fish, a hifin or similarly smaller shrimp goby with randals pistol shrimp is also awesome if you have sand. Other fish you could consider include yellow assessor, Pygmy geometric perchlet, swales or rubes swissguard basslet, various small gobies from eviota and trimma genus (and green banded goby), tailspot blenny would also work as would a captive bred rainford goby. I’d do 2-3 fish unless you’re doing just small gobies in which case a group of green banded gobies would make an lively display

Do possum wrasses require sand beds? I really like them but my 10 gallon is bare bottom so I wasn’t sure if they would work for a wrasse

Nope - neither the possum nor the pink streaked requires a sand bed, the sleep in rock crevices. My pink streaked makes a mucus cocoon and tucks itself into a corner of the tank!

I think I may have to get one then, thanks
