I ordered a Nano tank last week but thanks to Hurricane Dorian it's arrival has been delayed.
My question is this...can I start cycling my live rock in a separate tank and then transfer it to the new tank to get a small head start?

best to accomplish in display tank. Sorry for delay as none of us like to wait for anything new.
Do take it slow and be it known . . Always worth the wait in saltwater.

I totally understand the need for patience. And I posted this because I like to hear from more experienced reefers. This will be my fourth tank and I learned early on that the lack of patience can lead to disater.
Can you tell me why I shouldn't let the rock sit in my observation tank that has been running for months? I don't plan on putting anything into my DT Nano until I'm positive it has cycled. Just thought that the live rock could start holding some nitrifying bacteria.

what kind of rock do you have? Real live rock or dry rock you want to cycle for the new tank?

The external life that feeds the bacteria will differ from tank to tank. Lack of organisms will lead to reduced or diminished organisms with an already established rock
