Starting a new saltwater tank

Hi, I'm looking to start a 40 gallon tank I already have the tank and the stand, I want to DIY a 20 gallon sump with a kit from Fiji cube, and I wanted to know how you connect the tank to the sump? And if you have any advice for keeping a saltwater tank and what fish and invertebrates I should get, and some good beginner corals that would all work together. And any products or gear you reccomend
