Hello everyone! I have had tanks for most of my life and as we just moved from Alberta to Ontario we had to rehome all of our fish (fresh water) but kept the tank and all accessories. I have always been curious of saltwater tanks and am seriously considering doing a salt water set up. The wife would prefer a full reef setup (she wants clowns and anemone). Would this be possible to do in our 29g freshwater tank (will be cleaned before hand). And what would be the best option for filtration? I'm seeing mixed reviews between external canister filters and HOB filters

You could do a lot with the old tank but you will need a good light I like this it one of my favourite is the viparspectra they are a good budget reef light https://youtu.be/2ssmVZ

You can usually buy Ro water at your lfs

You need to look into it more like the water depending on what corals you get

I suggest you start with softys and a bta

As for fish a pair of common clowns or some designer clowns/ a pair

Salt is very different than freshwater, this is a good starting point.

I would go with the thread above that goes over basically everything you need to know regarding the basics of reef keeping! (It’s what I used haha) also for an anemone, I would not get one as soon as you get clowns, they need to be added into a more established reef tank. Most people will add them into a 6 month old or older tank. I have an anemone that my clowns have not decided to have it be their host yet, they usually swim around my thermometer in my tank….
