Starting a new tank

I have two 5 gallon buckets with sand and water in them, they are almost full to the top with sand and an inch above that is water. Its been sitting for years with lids on them. would it be okay to put them in a new tank and start it up and let the tank cylce out?

aragonite sand?
I would defiantly rinse it well before using it.
And only if it's aragonite.
