Hopefully this is the right place for this post.
Just purchased a 20gallon for a qt. getting ready to add a couple more fish. I have a aq50 and a heater matched salinity. I see most people just run pvc fitting no rock or sand. Is there a reason not to add any rock to qt or is it just a preference?

It’s okay to add new dry rock to a QT setup if it is just an observation tank. However rocks, sand, etc. absorb medication such as copper so it’s hard to maintain therapeutic levels.

Perfect thanks guys I had a couple pieces of dry rock so that’s why I was wondering. I’ll go out and get a couple of pvc fitting tomorrow. @phatduckk I’ll read into that thread thank you. Do you guys treat meds right away or observe the fish first for any signs?

I’m on my first QT so nowhere near a pro; I spent a bunch of days without meds. My focus being making sure I could keep ammonia at zero and getting them to eat consistently. So partially observation & partially getting my bearings.

My guys actually looked great so most of the first week was me just being nervous and them getting used to me being around and staring at them lol

Haha I’m the same way when I fist got both my clown 4 months ago I watched them like a hawk I still do but not as much. Thanks for the advice!
