I'm looking to turn a 55 gallon tank into a deep sand bed refugium/sump for my 120 gallon DT. The DT has been running for years and is looking good without any sand. I want to see more life that can't live in DT without sand. I'm going to be moving the DT from basement to right above my 55 gallon that I'm using as QT.

First question is should I setup the refugium at the same time as the move or get it started now just by itself?

Planning on 6 inches of live sand one or two new live rock from LFS.

What kinds of critters are good for a dsb? I don't want things that will eat the life out of the sand!!

Get spaghetti worms, they burrow deep in the sand. Bristle worms and brittle stars stay in the sand and will multiply. They all keep the sand clean of detritus. Amphipods, Tisbe coperpods and mysis shrimp can graze on microalgae that grow on the sand. Hope that helps:)
