Starting a refugium

What are your nitrate levels? Might have to increase input to keep that much plant life growing and healthy..

Nitrate is just above 5ppm and has been pretty stable phosphate I try to keep above 0.04 but most of the daily readings are 0.01 or lower I'm adding about 3ml of phosphate daily and feeding the fish three times a day, lots of phytoplankton too.

What do you think about just keeping the cheato and ulva? I really don't need the nutrient export just look cool and home for pods.

I personally only have Cheato.. I you could just let it self regulate and see how it works out ??

Please tell me this is diatoms and not sand dwelling Dinos!!

Are peppermint shrimp a good idea for this refugium now starting to get aiptasia?
Yes but it helps to get atleast 2. If they are small or unfamiliar with eating aphasia, it may take a little while for them to learn.

Also your sand might not be getting mixed up enough - might want to consider some nassarius snails.

Hope you are planing on taking that back off line when it’s up and running. Don’t want to waste your micro fauna by skimming them up!! Also make sure your not running the fuge water back into the Roller Mat.
Looking good pal keep it up !

Just going through an old thread and this jumped out at me as one of the best advice I ever got. No skimmer and no filters on my new upgrade.
