Starting a salt water tank

I've been doing multiple fresh water tanks but now I really want to do a salt water tank. Nothing crazy just fish really, trying to figure size if tank and filtration I should use to get started. I could possibly use a tank I already have. Thanks for all suggestions
Welcome to R2R! I am also new to this salt water adventure and I went all in and bought a 200g peninsula from IM. I have already started down that money pit rabbit hole but I would say it depends on the type of fish that you want to have for size of tank. I feel like if I could start over it wouldn't be that hard to get a 75g marineland or aqueon tank and a diamond tipped holesaw to cut holes out for the overflow into a 40g breeder for a sump and would be far less expensive compared to the plan I got but I want to make my tank into a reef as well. Since I built my first salt water mixing station I feel more confident in my ability to DIY things that I wouldn't have done before I started this salt adventure. Good luck!!

Welcome! Glad you joined. I came from the freshwater side, and doing FOWLR (fish only with live rock... everyone loves acronyms lol) vote you can just switch an available tank into saltwater. Just don't mix the water IN tank, even for first time setup. I use trash cans (never held trash, just for salt mixing purposes). Whichever way you go, I applaud you for jumping over the salinity line (makes more sense once you are familiar with refractometers and the salt concentration line you view)

Have you considered starting your build thread? I found its a great place to document my tank's evolution for myself. I wish I had started while in planning stages, which may be where you still are. I started tank first then joined, so I'm still finding myself going back collecting pictures & updating historically as well as current state. Once you create your first post in your thread and link it to your account, they will give you build badge (look left, under my ID)

This is a good reference book type online article I still review:
