Focus on school. Skip the aquarium, save the money.

Exactly this.... By the time it gets established you will be leaving and it will suffer while you are gone. Keep planning and when the time is right you will be even more prepared.

I had a 10 gallon mantis shrimp tank when I was a freshman at college. It was definitely a conversation piece. I'd say now is the time to start. If I hadn't started in high school I probably would have thought I'd be too busy by the time it was the 'right time'. If you're interested, go for it.
