I don’t understand why everyone is so set on dosing ammonia in their tank. I’ve never used ammonia. My buddies never use ammonia. And my lfs never uses ammonia. There’s other methods of introducing ammonia that don’t include going out and buying more crap you’ll only use once.

There is more than one way to skin a cat.

When I cycled my tank, I considered several options on the ammonia source for the cycle.

I settled on the 2 dollar bottle of ammonia from Dr Tims.

On day 1 I knew how much had been added and I was able to test for decreased concentration as the days went on.

No guesswork, just a simple and extremely inexpensive method. Once it started to decrease, added a controlled amount again and was able to watch it go down. Testing for nitrates confirming.

There are plenty of other methods. They'll all work on varying schedules. One of my friends used a raw shrimp and let it decompose in the tank. Have seen others use a Molly and fish food. They'll all work

Yes and also add a bag of carbon. The shrimp method smells bad, literally.
