Starting fallow period with dead fish

I have ich in my DT so I pulled out the surviving fish and put them into QT to start the fallow period. A lyretail anthias died before we could catch him and a very large black mithrax crab took the body into a cave somewhere that I can’t find. If I am unable to find him at all can I let the clean up crew do it’s job and go ahead and count today as day 1 of fallow period? Or do I need to be sure his remains are completly gone before starting?

Ich needs a live host to feed on so you will be ok. Very sorry to hear about your situation. I got ich about a year ago because I didn't listen to ppl and skipped qt. I thought I've been doing fresh for years parasites are easy. Yeah, not so much with salt. I went a total of 84 days because I was on vacay during day 76.

Not ich, but I had a tank wipeout with velvet and couldn't find one of the bodies for a while as it was deep in a crevice. I eventually found it weeks/months later, but was fine with fallow starting from date of last fish death; I'd imagine it's similar for ich.
