Hi all. I've just bought a 250 litre tank, and am literally starting from scratch. Here it is so far - an empty tank. My question is this: can I use an old glass aquarium as a sump? my sister is throwing out her old 3 foot tank (around 180 litres) and said I could have it

Oh by all means. Just get 3 pieces of glass cut and silicone in some baffles.

I did the same thing. It is the best because you can totally customize what you need. I bought cheep tank at petco and neighbor was throwing a tank away that I used for glass. There are many configurations so plan out wisely. In hindsight I wish I made a larger refugium section and did not split the inbound flow.

Thanks for these photos - very helpful. I guess I'll find out in due course what the different compartments are for. I haven't researched too far ahead at the moment/ really am taking it one step at a time!
