Hello everyone, I am interested in getting into the saltwater live reef hobby. I’ve had a fresh water 10 gallon tank for 2 years and I think it’s time to make the next step. I’m looking at getting the Red Sea AIO MAX Nano 20 gallon tank, or possibly a 40 gallon tank and buy my filtration, and lights, etc. piece by piece. What do you think would be best for a beginner? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Larger tanks are easier. I would personally do a 40 gallon with a fijicube aio insert filter or a sump. Sumps make life much easier.

I agree that larger tanks tend to be easier and can be more forgiving. Lighting and other equipment can sometimes be the same as you would use on the smaller tank so the cost for the other equipment doesn't necessarily need to be more on a larger tank.
