Hi guys

Already have Redsea XL200 set up in February 2020 have finally won the wife over and she loves the fish and corals,

Strike while the irons hot went to LRS and had the Redsea 250 in mind though ended up buying XL300, the other tank is still running so I have started cycling the XL300 using Redsea live sand I will also transfer some of the rock from the existing tank to help with the cycle + Dr Timms One & Only + Dr Timms Ammonium Chloride Solution

Still producing RO and mixing with Redsea Coral pro before pumping to the tank, any comments welcome

Like your plumbing looks good, isn’t it fun doing the cycle,, test, feed, test again ghost feeding helps,,take a shrimp from freezer and toss it in the tank,, personally I’m not a fan of bare bottom,, good bedding of crushed coral and argenite are real good mixed together,, I believe it helps the cycling process and gives good Bacteria place to reside Good luck with new build, don’t forget pics, pics, pics

Thanks for your message yes will keep the photos coming, as you can see the water is cloudy as I added 2 x bags of Redsea live sand today, didn't go very far so ordered 3 more bags today they will be here tomorrow also ordered a new skimmer Reef Octopus Essence 130

Do I have to wait for the water to clear from the sand before adding Dr Timms?

Seems like overkill to me. Live rock alone will give you an instant cycle. Don't really need an additional bac additive and ammonia, but it wont hurt.

Yes i agree though i have only removed a couple of small pieces of live rock from the sump and placed in the refugium section of the new sump, i will be moving over all the rock from my main tank though I didn’t want to disturb the current tank to much.

Idk never use the stuff ,, the ocean water I use has all I need in it ,, my tank fully cycled in 12 days when I started

Can you send me some?

Lol wish that simple,, a five gallon bucket weighs little over 45lbs the shipping would cost a fortune
I will have to keep mixing salt and producing RO

I think best protocol for sand these days is a full rinse with tap or RODI until it runs clear before use. This completely avoids the dusty cloud that you'll potentially be dealing with for a long time.

With 80 gallons of water and any amount of live rock, you'd be ok stocking a couple smaller fish. The live rock will seed the dry rock faster than the ammonia will build I'd wager.

none in the new tank yet

Would get one started if you go the ghost feeding route, help keep things under control I’m a firm believer of this method

Thanks for the reply interesting, not sure the wife will be impressed if the new tank starts smelling like a dead cat as the new tank is next to the kitchen. Do you mean add the CUC before adding the shrimp?

Note to self always go with advice given on the forum not the instructions on the live sand packaging, its taken nearly 3 days to clear, I had to turn on the Clarisea and also the skimmer to clear it up.
Will now add Dr Tims One & Only this morning

If you use rocks from your old tank and also transfer over a a little of the old sand (not rinsed) into the new tank you do not need add any ammonia or rotten shrimps. You do not either need any nitrification bacteria feed - but if you feel more safety with that - use it - it harmless as worst.

just do as suggested below

Feed very sparsely for a couple of weeks and slowly rise the amount of food.

Sincerely Lasse

Ok thanks for the reply

Finally moved the tanks over this week, so stressful, the time has gone so fast, still need to sort out the wiring.
