Starting out

https://www.marinedepot.com/innovative-marine-lagoon-25-pro-aio-25-gallon-aquarium-bundle, You mean something like this?

Also is there any RODI system that I could use that is not over 200 dollars?
You can buy direct from IM - they seem to have the 25 lagoon in stock.

For RODI, this is the cheap and effective go-to:

Id go with a 100w - 150w heater. You should source your gear online. It will be WAY cheaper than what youll see it for at LFS's

Post above is about the same RODI I started with. Skimmers aren't needed at all. They are a luxury and ease of living tool. They keep water aerated and clean. Both of those can be accomplished in other ways. To start all you need is a tank, clean water, heater, powerhead, rocks, substrate and salt. Everything else can be added as you go.

Okay can you sugjest a good light? Powerhead and for the tank listed about they seem to be out of the stands for it. Would still like to see if I can afford to get and use a Protein skimmer as it would keep things cleaner and less problems.

Ok cool I ordered the RODI. Will have to wait on the tank for the time being. They seem to be out of the stands for that tank any alternative? Plus a light? Want to price out what a skimmer and sump would run me for this setup and power head.

I think if you have a decent understanding of nutrients and flow in your tank then you can be very succesful.

Lights are very budget and outcome oriented. I started with the Chinese black boxes. They were cheap and got the job done. I've since switched to kessil A360s and love them. The difference in the shimmer and clarity is night and day. Cheaper lights like the black boxes make things look washed out. There are a million posts on here from people who know better than I do though. I'd recommend getting the best you can afford to. You'll only need 1 with the size of the tank you're running. Whether you go LED or T5 or some type of hybrid will depend on your budget. Keep in mind that you won't even need lights at all until the tank has been up and running for a couple few weeks. For now worry about testing equipment, heaters, heater controller, substrate, rocks and powerhead(s). This hobby can add up very quickly, makes it easier if you don't try buying it all at once.

Recomdations for heaters for the lagoon 25 tank, Power head? Why a heater controller? What substrate? Live rocks? Good place to get rocks and live rocks?

For that tank if I want to do a skimmer and a sump what would I need?

Welcome to the reef. You can make a simple tank fairly easily. You can do an AIO like the waterbox. I’ve heard good things about them on this forum. Good luck and make sure you post a build thread once you lock in on a decsion. Also check out SCA 24 AIO. I just got one and am really pleased with the quality so far.

AIOs don't have a sump, the portion built into the back of the unit is the filtration area. Id wait on a skimmer until you know for sure what tank your going with so you can ensure the dimensions work.

http://www.scaquariums.com/SCA-24-Gallon-Starfire-Tank-p/sca-24g.htm, This tank? I see stands link on the page but it does not show anything.

You can check the stand out in my build thread. It’s nothing super fancy, but it does the job and I think I had maybe $50 in lumber and screws in it.

What protein skimmer are you using? What powerhead?

I haven’t bought a skimmer yet. That’s on my list. There is a ton of real estate in the back chambers though. And SCA does make one as well. I will move my old hydro up here if needed, but they gave me a 250 gph pump with the setup and it pushes a lot of water. I literally just got done filling it tonight.

What does the tank come with, I see it says a return pump. Guessing hose also to hook up the pump and get it to move water. Does it come with any kind of filtering. Not exactly sure what the overflow on the back of the tank is for.

Water flows out of your tank, through the refugium and then pumped back into your tank

Yeah. So it comes with the return pump and plumbing. Bio balls and ceramic bio media. There are 3 compartments in the back. You have your overflow for water returning from the display. The middle compartment for your media, and the third compartment is for your return. It also comes with a few sheets of filter floss.

You could also use the middle chamber as a refugium if you want too. That’s what I did in the sump of my 65 that I have in the family room.
